Cherished for their charm and durable utility, yellowware bowls were staples in 19th- and early-20th-century­ kitchens. They remain useful and affordable today.

ORIGIN American, early 1900s.

ORIGINAL USE Potteries throughout the United States produced pressed, molded, or thrown mixing and serving bowls. These 3" to 18" diam. nesting bowls were clear-glazed to emphasize the natural pale yellow to dark mustard clay. Bowls were often decorated with bands.

DETAILS Like most yellowware, this 10" diam. mixing bowl is unmarked. Its square lip differs from rounded ones of earlier, 19th-century bowls.
